You have to upload the image to wiki first, then link it using the following code:

[[Image:otara.jpg|alt=Otara Gunewardene|Otara Gunewardene]]

Hey,

From YahooAnswers
First, you need to log in. Then from the menu on the left (under the blank) select upload file. Browse your computer and upload the file you wish to. This will also give you several choices as to where the picture came from. You will need to rename the file as well as describe where it came from.

Then when you go to the edit page, change the file name to whatever you named your .jpg. i.e... if you named your file divix.jpg, then change whatever the current image is to divix.jpg. You can do a 'show preview' to make sure the picture is the correct one.

So if the coding is: Image=Caption.jpg
Change it to: Image=divix.jpg

can some do it for me, greatly appreciate it. not sure what i am doing wrong!
You're pulling it from someone else's web site.  That violates copyright, unless you can show that the rights to that image were/are released, or that you control the rights to the image and are granting release.

If you own the rights, and this is pulling from the "offical" site, then you shouldn't be editing the wikipedia articles.  PR and advertising aren't allowed.

What would be the best way or type of picture that can be added?

You are going to have to get permission from http://otara.lk/ to submit that image to Wikipedia
