Unable to boot from cd rom drive on hp proliant server

Hi, have a hp proliant dl120 G5 server (160GB sata drive). Trying to install an O/S from the dvd/rom drive but disc is not being picked up when server boots up. checked bios and dvd rom drive is visible and set this to number 1 in the boot priority. tried different discs but no success.

has anyone come across this ?

Is it possible to attach an external USB DVD-ROM drive and rule out a drive problem?

Hello Grmi,

Mavaks has an excellent suggestion.  I wonder if a USB Stick would work as well?

Rereading your comments, I got confused.  Are you having problems seeing the SATA Disk or problems seeing the installation CD/DVD via the DVD?

Please clarify.
