Color Codes emails on Shared Mailbox Lotus Notes

With a shared mailbox in Lotus Notes, I know users can right click individual emails and click edit to edit subject field, body field, etc. Is there a way to color highlight the email? I do not want a rule for this.

Here is my logic.

When an email comes to the box that is a unique task to be performed, I want users who take ownership of the task to color code the email and edit the subject with their username/name. I know with outlook 2007 it can be done. Currently the shared box is Lotus Notes 6, but our personal boxes are 8.5. So eventually they will be 8.5 (I HOPE THEY GIVE ME THAT OPTION). Anyway, can this be done with either version and how?

Probably, it can be done, with both versions. Develop a (action) button in the mail form that, when a user accepts the task, adds his name to a field in the mail and sets a colour-code in some other field. Colour codes are RGB values, not too difficult therefore. I assume you define a colour per task-status, not per user. You should also modify the view or folder that displays the mails, so that it contains a different colour column. The column already there is a user-dependent one, where each user can set his own colours, not visible to the others.

How's that, for a general direction?
