How do I restore deleted items in SBS 2003?

We are using SBS 2003 with Exchange. I was asked to recover (hard) deleted items for a user. First of all I tried selecting the Deleted Items folder>Tools>Recover deleted items but this was empty. I then checked in System Manager and the Storage limits were configured to 30 days but in Active Directory these were overridden to 0. I have also checked the registry entry on the local PC as per Microsoft KB 246153, e.g. DumpsterAlwaysOn, etc. and it was already configured correctly. However, there is still nothing in Recover Deleted Items. Is there any other way that this can be done either on the server or the local PC?

If you have a Backup of the Database in Exchange Server then you can use that.
You will have to create a Recovery Storage Group.
Then Restore the Database to the RSG and from there you can merge the Data for this user.

Thank you. The problem is that while there is a back up, this is only taken once a day in the evening. The deleted emails were received and deleted prior to the back up being run.
