Word - use .docm template when .dot template is requested

A DLL has been written to access a word template as TEMPLATE.dot, however, the template has recently been modified and its name changed to TEMPLATE.dotm (for Office 2010).

Without changing the DLL, please indicate whether there is a way to create a TEMPLATE.dot (or perhaps do something else) that enables the reference to TEMPLATE.do in the DLL to result in TEMPLATE.dotm being activated.  Note that TEMPLATE.dotm has macros in it.
