BES Express. Email Sync Issues

Hi

I've setup the latest BES Express software on a windows 2003 sbs machine. Aftr much fiddling around, we finally managed to get a BB handheld (Curve 8900) activated. We originally activated it but it would get up to 95% or so complete and then start going backwards! 2 weeks later it still hadn't 100% activated. We wiped the handheld back to factory defaults, re-did the enterprise activation and this time it completed in around 7 hours.

However, there are issues with the sync and its not quite right. I'd really appreciate some help! Specifically :

1. Still getting emails twice in the ‘envelope’ icon box on the BB – the ‘envelope plus globe’ icon box is ok though. Not sure I understand the difference between the two and why I need both!
2. If I open/delete an email on my desktop, the changes I make don’t affect it on the BB
3. If I open/delete (on handheld and desktop option) on the BB, again it doesn’t change the email on the desktop

However, the calendar and contacts appear to sync correctly. I found setting the Active Directory permissions and following the installation instructions quite a challenge, and wonder whether somebody has seen this sort of problem before and can maybe give some pointers as to what needs doing?

I have previosuly installed BES version 4 on another 2003 server about 4 years ago. I didn't have any trouble installing it and it is still working perfectly now! I really dont know if the issues for this new installation (on a different server for a client) are server side or handheld in nature.

Thanks in advance for any help.

1. did you swap from bis to bes on that device?  What i mean with that if email before was pushed trough the cellular provider to that blackberry and now you switched to the bes server then you have to contact your cellular provider and tell em you get the emails double.  They can fix that at their end.  It happened a few times on bb here also.

2 & 3.  Also see what your Delete On setting is set to: Check under Messages, hit the menu key and go into Options. Then go into Email Reconciliation. You can then change to 'Delete On' to Mailbox and Handheld.

Handheld means it will remain in the email client once deleted from the device
Mailbox and Handheld means it will delete from both the email client and the device
Prompt means the person would get a prompt on the BlackBerry to either delete from the Handheld or Mailbox and Handheld

Hmmm. Both these ideas sounds perfectly plausible. He did previosuly collect email by having it pushed from the provider. And he used to sync his calendarand contacts over USB to his PC. I assumed that once the handset was wiped and connected to the BES, that this email would no longer come in. But it does appear as though it is, as he has 2 messaging icons on the handset now so I suspect you've hit the nail on the head.

I hadn't considered the delete option on the handheld, I'm aware of it as i have my own blackberry running on a BES v4. This sounds likely too.

When i can get hold of my client and look into this further, I'll get back to you. Next day or two i hope.

Thanks for your help

Hi

Sorry for the delay in responding. Client has been unavailable to try suggestions until this week.
Your suggestions worked. The main problem was the BIS account was still in operation. Once this was taken care of, it all started working fine.

Thanks for your help
