"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There's a reasonable tutorial on the Apache Tomcat site:

http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/ssl-howto.html

And for the Windows specific bit's e.g.  entering:

"%JAVA_HOME\bin\keytool"

instead of just: keytool

See:

http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Running+JIRA+over+SSL+or+HTTPS

If you need help on opening another port on your Firewall (443 or 844) there an plenty of examples, on this site and the web in general.
