Cisco IE-3000: Use non rugged SFP - possible?
We are using IE-3000 because of its smaller size factor than other switches but Cisco recommends the GLC-LX-SM-RGD sfp. Can the IE-3000 use non rugged SFP? Would it be possible to just use a GLC-LX-SM? Does anyone have experience with this? Any supporting documentation?
Thanks,
Donald

Interesting - I would be interested in knowing what the rep says. I don't have this particular model switch myself. There are a couple of SFPs without the RGD spec listed on the datasheet though. I had always thought the "wiring" for the SFP was pretty universal - and if the IOS supports one LX SFP it should support another.
From our Cisco SE:
"You should be able to use the GLC-SX-MM but the difference is that it won’t support the same temperature range as the –RGD version."
So it sounds like you should be OK. It was good information for me too, as I may need to do the same thing :-)
