How to hook up a T-Mobile Droid G1 to ActiveSync Exchange?

I have a customer who has an older T-Mobile Android G1 phone. We want it to sync to our Exchange 2003 server. I have hooked up several Droids to our Exchange server using the built-in corporate email functionality but all those Droids were newer. This individual is about an hour away from me so I don't have my hands on it. I will have to walk her through any setup over the phone. Does this phone not do ActiveSync out of the box?

Do these earlier Droids not have the ability to talk to an Exchange server via ActiveSync? Is there a free app that can be downloaded other than Touchdown?
