Cyberpower AVR not connecting to Server

I have several Cyberpower 900 AVRs which I use with my computers. All of them can connect via USB and are able to use the CP software to turn off automatically. Ironically, my Cypberpower 1500AVR does not have a USB port. The new AVRT does. So, I have it connected via serial cable to my server. I have to say I have not used serial cables in a long time.

Anyway, the software does not all the UPS to connect with the server. Physically/electrically it does, it just can't manage the shutdown process. I am using a Dell 2900 PE with SBS 2008 SP1.

Thanks.

You should be able to get away with connecting the ups via serial, and in the os power options configue your shutdown procedures

I looked through there. There probably is something and I am missing it. I would like the software to run in the system tray, so I can monitor the power backup. The PPPE business edition allows one to control the Cyberpower via the website. It's rather powerful, but, of course, it states it can't connect. There was ONE time when I connected it that it stated it needed a driver.
this sounds like something i have come accross befor

whats your OS details
Can you let me know what details you want besides the Dell 2900 PE with SBS 2008? I apologize for not knowing the answer.
sorry my mistake,

ok try this when you have a quiet period

connect the ups via console cable to the server,

reboot the server,

log on with admin privilages

go into server management (not sbs console)

go do device management

and with any luck you should see an un recognized device

from there you should be able to manualy install the drivers for the ups, and then should work with your software.

working with comm devices in a modern os can be a pain in the rear.
I agree. I am about to just purchase the USB one. I can't seem to get the device manager to show to devices again. They were there once with no driver. Plus, I have to find the drivers. The Cyberpower site isn't the most helpful, lol.
further you may need to hit the scan for hardware changes button to force the os to re-look
ok
if you unplugged the comm cable, you will need to re-boot to get it to pick it back up, did you get a cd for the usb drivers, if you did just see if you can manualy foce install the drivers on comm, i have done this with a handfull of other ups's
ok
OK, I shut down the server and turned off the UPS. I then turned the UPS back on and the server. When both were back online, it does now show the Batteries in the device manager. Interestingly enough, when you look at the properties, it states there are no device drivers. When you try to get them automatically online, Windows states that the drivers are the latest ones. So clearly, they aren't on the same page.

I don't have a CD that I am aware of. I don't think Cyberpower makes this model anymore. They have the new AVRT. Everything in support talks about USB. No mention of serial ports.
ok great, so we have won half the battle,

windows will lie to you about the latest drivers if it doesnt have one :)

i have done a quick bit of googleing, just to make sure, your ups is not the dual usb/serial version of the 1500 is it?

OK. And, it's not the dual version, unfortunately. The new AVRT is and all of my 900s are.
hmms well the only thing that is stopping you from using that ups full is the lack of x64 drivers

find them and your good to go!

Good Luck
Well, I think it makes sense to call support in the AM and see what their take is on it. I will keep you posted. Thanks for all the help.
That's weird, I used this one before. Maybe I needed the batteries in the device manager. But it's working great now.

The tech asked whether or not the serial cable was the one that came with it. Not sure why that would matter.
