BIOS issue? Computer shuts down with no logs, no blue screen

Because I was planning to install new CPU, I used MSI's web-based BIOS updater.  It worked great except that now the computer shuts down about every 10 to 30 minute.

Since there's no blue screen and since there's no logging it's as if the CPU is overheating and it's just shutting down.  The MSI motherboard utility reports the motherboard fan speed as "zero RPM" and the alarm signals but the temperature holds steady at 50 degrees Celsius and I have the side panel off and I can see the fan spinning just fine on the Intel Cure 2 Duo 2.13Ghz.

How do I debug this?  Should I try stepping the BIOS back a few versions?
