Smallest footprint Free AntiVirus program
I've been fixing PC's for years and used AVG free a lot, due to how minimal it's footprint is. It was very small in size, and did not take up too much memory while running it's processes. Recently, however, it's become bloatware, a whopping 135mb. Avast & Avira run around 50mb, but on older machines these programs can use a lot of processing memory. I'm looking for something that will run on XP w/ around 128-256mb of memory.
Recently I've been asked to rebuild some 10 year old machines, & I know this is not very practical but was wondering if there is an "AV Lite" out there.
Thanks.

AV "lite" would be nice, but only if it does it's job well too. I would stay with Avira for it's better ratings. For paid, Eset NOD32. Clamwin *might* be good, but I thought I read that ClamAV didn't quite do as well in catching viruses.
Take a look at Vipre...I've been putting it on my clients (home users) for maybe 3 years...
Hardly notice it's there...
Effective...
Easy to use for non-comptuer folks...
Small footprint...

Is there a free version of Vipre? All I found was a free 30 day trial.
Nope...try it for 30 days and see what you think...
If you like it I don;t think you will find the $39.95 too much...I'd go for the "Premium"...you get a firewall that's pretty good...
And for $69.95 you get a license that will cover all the comptuers in your house...how ever many that might be...
It's a good deal, I think...
Let us know what you think...
