Need a nudge in right direction for sendmail to postfix migration issue

Hi.  In my sendmail setup I have a file called mailertable that has entries like this

bob@domain.com.au              smtp:bob@gmail.com
alice@domain.com.au            local:alice
eric@domain.com.au              smtp:eric@hotmail.com
james@other.com                   smtp:james@hisowncompany.com.au
other.com                            error:no such email address
belinda@example.org             smtp:belinda@yahoo.com
help@example.org                 local:helplist
example.org                         error:no such mailbox

and so on.

I have been working with the virtual and transport config files, but I just can't hit the right combination to get this to work for me.  Can someone put me on the right track, telling me which config file, or files, traditionally perform these functions for postfix?

Thanks - I seem to be going in circles!
