How do you make VMWARE Server 2.0.2 image work on VMWARE Workstation on Win7?

and vice versa?  I have a laptop with workstation, buy my work desktop has server-- vmware, and I was told this could be done?  One doesn't recognize the other though.  What do I need to do?  thanks.

You should just be able to copy the folder containing the vm to the other platform and bring it up. There is no difference in the image
Your VM should work on either or; you just need to copy the VM folder and all its contents to the other host & configure your datastore to point to the location of your VM and add it to your inventory and power it up. At the very least, you could use vCenter Converter Standalone to migrate it over.

Have you tried copying the vmware Server folder to the Datastore of Workstation and adding it in Workstation ?

I will give it another try.  Laptop and desktop are using Windows 7.  Thanks.  You have reassured me that it should work.  However, when i tried a week ago, i thought the file name suffix was different to add as virtual machine.
It's been a while, but I wanna say I was able to do it a while ago (last yr). Even if it doesn't work, as mentioned, you can use the free Converter and you'll be ok....

I get an error: "The server could not complete a request (HTTP 12031). I was using VMWARE Server and adding a good vmware workstation image.  it looked like it was going to work and then the error.
