Citrix XenApp Essential driver issue
Dear experts,

We are evaluating Citrix XenApp Essential for remote users to access our ERP, SAP Business One (SBO). The enviroment is one Windows 2003 Server SP2 over Citrix XenServ (2 VCPU and 2 GB RAM for a total of 5 sessions) with only Citrix XenApp Essential and a SBO client that will be the only app published.

Everything works fine but if I setup the color to 16 colors in order to optimize the bandwith (see attached file XenApp_2)

then I got an error messange when launch the app (see attached file XenApp_1).

I am looking for a solution in google or citrix forums but any result for the moment.

Hope you can help me and sorry if the question is too obvious, I am new at Citrix XenApp.

Thanks in advance

Use the highest color setting you can.  ICA will do a good job of compression.

Even if the connection travels along a really slow WAN?

By the way is Citrix XenApp the best solution in this kind of scenario? What about other tools like Citrix Branch Repeater?

If XenApp is recommended... could you give me some configuration tips to improve the user experience in terms of speed. We thought that reducing the number of colours was a good option.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks Carl,

We follow your advice and we will evaluate the full product. XenApp 5 is still ok (our servers are Windows2003) or we should upgrade to XenApp 6. Also any suggestion about XenApp 5/6 or any good documentation for reference?

Oh sorry, consider XA6 only if your apps will run on Server 2008 R2.  Some will not.

No need to reduce the colours. ICA will do the compression work.

HI Carl,

Your doc for XenApp5 is really good. With a fast internet connection I setup everything in one day. Congratulations!

One question... is there any option or configuration you recommend to improve the speed and the user experience when using poor WAN connections, like from one country to another?

Regards,

Windows Server 2003 was based on Windows XP and was released in four editions: Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter. It also had derivative versions for clusters, storage and Microsoft’s Small Business Server. Important upgrades included integrating Internet Information Services (IIS), improvements to Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy (GP), and the migration to Automated System Recovery (ASR).
