Compression is not working on Backup Exec 2010
Hi there,
I have installed recently Backup Exec 2010, i have HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448 tape drive that supports 200GB/400GB tapes, Hardware compression is enabled and i have configured Backup Exec with Compression type (Hardware if available, otherwise software).
I am backing up a data from File Server which are generally documents (280GB on the drive as windows states), when i backup to the tapes, i had to use two tapes to backup these data with compression ratio 1:1 so i think no compression is enabled, please help me to fix this issue.

I think you meant 2:1, really -- 1:2 would be inflation, not compression (and older tape drives did in fact sometimes write more data with compression, than without).
The difference is the same as going to the store and seeing pencils ten for a dollar, or seeing them priced ten dollars for a pencil.

But as we start Backup Exec 2010 the value by device manager go's from enabled to disabled and the job Wil stick at 80 GB Of data.

pcgold, it's probably worthwhile for you to start a new question to ensure you get attention. This question is marked as having a solution already.
Try this:
Take an sample of your data (5 gigs) and try to compress it with zip. How high compress ratio did you get? Is the archive less than 50% in size than the original? If not, you just can't get the 1:1 ratio.
You should understand, that realtime compression (while writing to the tape) is less effective than the normal compression.
From my experience, you can put 15 to 20% more data with compression enabled, than is the physical size of the medium.
