Windows 7 explorer.EXE not enough free memory to run this program
Help!

I tried to install office 2010 and it had problems, and now my Windows 7 x64 doesn't allow my to open explorer and many other programs with the error message:

Explorer.EXE
-----------------
There is not enough free memory to run this program. Exit one or more programs, and then try again.

I can open up Task Manager and see that I have 4GB available and more than 2GB is free. I'm stuck and need help.

Another thing I noticed is my volume speaker icon in the system tray has a cross 'x' on it and it says "The Audio service is not running"

I do not want to reinstall Windows and all my programs again if I can avoid it.

Tried this and it says

Startup Repair could not detect a problem
-----------------------------------------------------
"If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or a portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this message, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance."

I have nothing plugged into this laptop via USB or otherwise.

So no luck. Rebooted normally and have the same problem.

First, What was last program you installed? Or changes you made to your PC. Try to uninstall that application that is maybe causing problem.

Second, Try to boot with safe mode and see if problem is still here. To enter safe mode, just press f8 on boot screen. Report back your findings.

As mentioned in my question, I tried to install Office 2010. It reported some problems and rolled back. I rebooted the machine and started having this issue.

Safe mode also has the same issue.

I suggest you to try to clean your PC with CCleaner, might fix the issues.

I did do one other thing while trying to install Office 2010. I created a new administrator user.

I doubt that operation might cause problems, i still think core problem is Office 2010 installation.

is it possible to delete the windows page file and it automatically gets recreated? I think if that works it might fix the issue. It seems that its virtual memory that is stuck somehow.

To reset pagefile: Go to My Computer, right click and select properties. Go to advanced tab and click settings button next to Visual Effects,Virtual Memory paragraph.
Then switch to advanced tab and click Change, set it to 0.

After you reboot, your pagefile should be recreated. If its not just go to same menu again and click System Managed Size.

I can't open 'My Computer' Properties. Nothing happens. Is there a way I can do this from command line?

Download Malwarebytes and scan, remove any malware:

As Exoticus said, you should scan with malwarebytes. IF there is no results, i suggest you to run win7 repair(if you didn't did it already)

Arxiss I previously suggested running win7 repair but it seems that it doesnt fix anything

I have the same problem and I really can't format my disk please help me

i have the same problem - after win7 SP1 reported that it have problems and rolled back installation.

i think the rollback operation corrupt some right of files and registry - so the windows can't access to folder it needed.

for example Windows folder does't have rights to access for SYSTEM user - no ever read.

now i've write python script that scan files, change rights by making admin an owner and adding full access rights to object

(waiting result)

but faith is leaving me, and i thing at the end the reinstalling of OS is coming

Yeah! my method was wrong but i've just found one that works

look last message on:
http://www.overclock.net/operating-systems/307106-really-need-help-problem-not-enough-2.html

you need to set full acess to group Users for  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

NO NEED REINSTALL!!!
