Mac client getting "Error Number 196" when printing from Citrix

Hey Everyone,

We have an interesting issue going on here -

We currently have 1 Citrix XenApp 5.0 server on Windows Server 2008. One location that connects up to us remotely is using Mac machines, and I'm having an issue with one user trying to print.

Other people in the same office, printing to the same printer, experience no issues. But this one user gets a "Error Number 196" box pop up whether they try to print documents or if I try to send a test print to them from the server while they're connected. I have had the user log onto other machines that are working fine for other people, but they specifically still experience the issue.

If the user clicks "okay" in the error 196 box, the print job disappears from the printer queue (when looking at it server side) and never is printed.

On the server, I have changed from using the correct driver for the printer to both the HP Universal Print Driver and the Citrix Universal Print Driver, and nothing has changed.

I have also re-named the local profile on the server, thinking that maybe it had become corrupted some how, but once again, no luck.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

If you said other users can print to this printer OK (from Citrix) I wouldn't change anything on the server as it will affect everyone. Or did you have a client printer mapped for only this user with the problem?

Also, if I understand it correctly... this user (with the problem) has the same problem on any machine he logs on to...If this is true, it looks like it's a profile problem

Anyway, my usual first-aid (you might have done already in which case please ignore) is:

I would delete the printer from this user's computer and add it back preferrably using IP address and with proper driver. Delete this user's cached profile from the servers. Get user to try again. If he still has problem, try uninstall the Citrix client, deleting Preferences then reinstall the client (same version that works on other users' machines)

If it is still a problem please give more details of the printer, the driver and the client version.

I hope this helps

I have re-installed the Citrix client (v. 11.2), deleted the cached profile from the server, and we still didn't have any success. Printer is an HP laserjet 2430.

This seems to be a Mac isolated issue, but only for this specific user. The user has parallels desktop (not bootcamp) installed on their machine, and when they boot into an XP VM with it, they are able to log into Citrix and print without any issues at all. If they close out of parallels and try to go in straight through Mac OS, they encounter the issue.

So right now we are able to print, but would prefer to not use parallels if possible.
