Lotus notes 8.5.1 (With MUI) - "on the fly" spellcheck reverting to default language
I have a user who uses the English (Default) and German spellchecker. For some reason, when he selects German as the language and then ticks "Keep on the fly changes until next language tag change" he then skips or accepts the change to the next word and it immedietely goes back to english.
When we log him onto another machine, this problem does not occur. I have uninstalled and reinstalled LN from the ground up and it still happens.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

If it is machine specific then I would first suspect the users access level to registry on the machine or where lotus notes is installed.

It's XP SP3.
Slight correction though, the LN administrator can open the user's mail file with no issues. I will check the user has local admin rights but I'm fairly sure they do.

The spell-checking preferences are saved in the local notes.ini file. If you were using roaming, then the SPELL_LANG and SPELL_PREFERENCES variables would be among those that roam with the users.
Since the misbehavior is confined to one PC, it stands to reason that the notes.ini is the source of the problem. Possibly, the user does not have modify permission to the notes.ini. Have a Windows user with admin rights to the machine log on but have the Notes user open Notes.
If the user does have modify permission, I would have an admin log on and have a different Notes user open Lotus Notes. If that user also has trouble with the spell check, I would try to revert to version 8.5 of the spell checker. I have found various postings on the Internet suggesting bugs with the 8.5.1 spell checker. To rever to 8.5 and earlier versions, enter this line in the notes.ini:
SPELL_FORCE_LEGACY=1
