what does the error
RS has not been granted access to the catalog content.
could mean-

where can this be checked/changed in the DB or in the server?

thanks

Can you run reporting services configuration
and initialize reporting services against the correct server\database
Avatar of anushahanna

ASKER

how i do this in SSRS 2000 (on 2003 OS)

thanks
Start ? Programs ? SQL Server ? Reporting Services ? Configuration

you should it in there no ?
not in 2000...
this is what we find,,
ssrs.jpg
rsconfig -c -s<yourservername> -dreportserver -aSQL -u<username> -p<password>

can you try this please ?
i will be using windows authentication.. and i will be running on local .. so should it be

rsconfig -c -dreportserver
even if you're running from local, you need to specify the server name

OK - i tried
rsconfig -c -sPOSSAND2 -dreportserver
and got
Missing required argument: authtype
rsconfig -c -sPOSSAND2 -aWindows -dReportServer

the last switch -d, replace reportserver with the actual name of the reportserver database.
probably something like POSSANDReportServer
thanks very much - that worked!

before the error was
*Report Server has not been granted access to the catalog content.

after running the command, i get
*The RSReportServer.config file has been modified.
*Schedule and Delivery Processor cannot connect to the report server database.

The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. (rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable) Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'.

is this related to the original problem?
ok, can you just restart the reporting services service,
I'll get a couple of a commands for you in the mean time.
ok, the windows logon, you are connected with, which you did the rsconfig command,
are you able to logon to enterprise manager with your windows credentials and query the databases ?

also, just try changing the reporting services service account to use Local System instead of Network Service.
It's just a permissions issue now, once that's sorted it'll come back online.
>>ok, can you just restart the reporting services service,

is that the service name : "ReportServer"

>>are you able to logon to enterprise manager with your windows credentials and query the databases

yes

correct,
if you click on run, type in services.msc, you should see reporting services or report server.
double click on that, and change the logon for it to localsystem.
>>just try changing the reporting services service account to use Local System instead of Network Service.

you mean here, right? will we be coming back to using Network Service? then i need to make sure first that i have the password secured and ready..
RS.bmp
no, it'll be ok, you can change it to local system for good.
ideally later, you'll change it later to a proper domain a/c.
by the way, if that doesn't work,
then change the a/c to use your windows authentication that you're logged on with.
thank you-

I change it to LOCAL SYSTEM

before changing, the error was
Schedule and Delivery Processor cannot connect to the report server database.

Now the error is
Schedule and Delivery Processor has not been granted access to the catalog content.

Do you see the play of words "cannot" vs "has not been granted"
ok, so you now need to give the local system account permissions in SQL
to the reportserver databases. You can do that in enterprise manager, security.

getting there :-), that's a better error message at least
OK- right after it said "Schedule and Delivery Processor has not been granted access to the catalog content."
it also says now
Report Server cannot connect to the report server database.
I tried my own domain account...

it says "Schedule and Delivery Processor has not been granted access to the catalog content."

the account i used is sysadmin on the database.. so should have all permissions to access the database...
>>so you now need to give the local system account permissions in SQL
to the reportserver databases. You can do that in enterprise manager, security.

what exact permissions? do_owner?
can you  put it to sysadmin for the moment and you can change it after.
yes right now it is the windows account profile i used, and it is already sysadmin.. that is what you meant, right?

RSReportServer.config

can you find that file, and post contents of it here ?
with "local account", do you check where it says "Allow service to interact with desktop"
no need for that no.
but please change it from local account, to the windows account you're currently logged on with. that should do the trick I think..
here it is..

Thanks very much - it worked.

so it seems like we used 3 commands in all - rskeymgmt rsconfig and rsactivate
Humpdy, sorry i jumped too quickly.. it worked only when given credentials.. but users are all getting prompts and should not be...

so back to square 2 (you already helped get to where i am from square 1 - in a better place than when started)...
