I am looking for possible Software or Appliance solutions that have bandwidth management.

The main criteria are:
1. It must include bandwidth quota's and throttling; and,
2. It must also be able to utilise LDAP for user authentication.  The user's LDAP username must be linked to their bandwidth quota;
3. The solution must have a captive portal or splash screen for logging in during LDAP authentication.  The captive portal or splash screen needs to be editable for adding help info or advertising;
3. Linux or Windows solution, though an all-in-one solution would be preferred.

There are a lot of hotspot packages out there with great monitoring, management of users and with a captive portal.  The problem with them is generally they don't have LDAP authentication.
I currently use a solution which is very stable, and uses LDAP authentication, but it is poor on the bandwidth management side.

You don't state what size of infrastructure your supporting, so I'm guessing small to medium business... I haven't used them in a few years, but SonicWall was/is a big player in that market & works pretty well. http://www.sonicwall.com/us/products/117.html

Not sure they meet all your criteria as it's been a while since I used them, but they had a lot of functionality along those lines.

We use to use Packeteer PacketShapers when I was overseas just for bandwith managment, & those worked well for serious bandwith managment. It looks like they have been purchaced by Bluecoat now http://www.bluecoat.com/products/packetshaper.

Bluecoat has some nice proxy & filtering software/appliances. More targeted to bigger businesses, or at least use to be, but those tied in to Active Directory very well, probably LDAP too.

Thanks for the reply.  From my initial check it doesn't look like the issues of LDAP and quota management will be met, but I have emailed them to request more information and clarity.  So we will see.

Sonic wall have said they should be able to meet all the criteria.  Their only problem is the editable captive portal which they say will be available by end of the year.  Packeteer can't meet the criteria.  Thanks again for your help.
