To Whom It May Concern:

I have a website made in joomla and I am trying to set up some goals in google analytics for it. However by viewing the page contents report on google analytics I noticed that there are two way to get to the same page.

http://www.mydomain.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=96&Itemid=8

http://www.mydomain.com /articles-8/mainmenu-13/96-My-Article-Name

The first link it seems I can only get to if I type it into my browser directly, where as the second link is what I get by navigating to the page using the buttons on the website.

I set up goals for both the links but I get a different number of goal reached (I.e. how many people navigated to the page)

I would like to know why two different url are leading me to the same page and what is the true address that I should be tracking?

Thank you

The first link is how joomla natively handles page loading, by passing parameters to the site.  It the link provided, joomla loads the content component (option=com_content) and tells it to to view (task=view) the article 8 in a category(i think) 96 (id=96 & itemid=8).  Whereas the 2nd url is the result of setting 'Search Engine Friendly URLs' in the site tab of the global configuration.
Both addresses are valid addresses to track.  You can also use some other joomla extensions that do a better job of the sef urls like sh404sef.  Good luck!
