asked on

configure partitions on DL380 G6

Just got 2 new DL380 servers installed and I don't see a util on boot to create/manage the RAID drives.  On our last set of servers, the RAID config util was an option on bootup.

Do I need one of the config disks ?

Boot up SmartStart CD - that will give you the option to configure the RAID array.

I was able to find SmartStart CD, it states that it is for "Proliant ML and DL 300, 500, and 700 Series and Proliant BL Servers"  V7.80, but I don't see anywhere that it covers the G6 series.

Will this CD work ?
If not, how do I obtain a new one ?
If it came with the server - it will work.

Boot it and follow your nose :)
No, it didn't.  and I don't know if I can get a hold of the original disks.

That’s why I am asking.

Whilst SmartStart is the proper way you *do* get an option to configure the array during POST, but it's hidden by the stupid splash screen, there's a message to press any key during startup so you see the BIOS messages.

I hate that splash screen so much :(
I was never able to get behind the splash screen to see some other options.
The only option I was able to get to was the BIOS config.

Was able to download a 32x version of the Smart-Start and it did boot and let me open a util’ called the "ACU" (Array Config’ Utility).   In the ACU it had a location for licenses keys, but my server is already configured with a RAID 1, and 5 drives.   If I brake the existing config/drives and create a new drive configuration(s), do I need to be worried about the license keys ? (will I be prompted for the key again?)

Thanks

The ACU did not ask for a key and all is working.

Thanks for the help.
