How can I make Windows Live Messenger more noticeable in Windows 7

I have windows messenger live for my windows 7 machine, when I receive messages from my friends list, the notification is not very noticeable. When I was running it under windows xp, the notification was very clear. Is there any way to get windows live messenger to display message notifications like the xp version, or at least give me a more noticeable effect when a message comes in than just a blinking (small) box on the taskbar.

I don't think so, i've just done the updates as they've come in from the original windows live install. I'll give that a shot.

One thing with the last version of windows live messenger (v14) is that its not fully windows 7 compatible. You could fix that by going to the messenger folder (something like c:\program files (x86)\live messenger) and change the program compatibility to windows xp on the executable.

- The new program looks the same as the old in terms of it's notification, I was having some issues with the pop up notification on new messages, and the new version fixed that at least.
- yeah, i've set the compatibility mode, and ungrouped the taskbar windows previously, was hoping there were more things I could do.
thanks for the tip on the new version. points are yours!

While it didn't completely answer what I wanted, I believe that there really isn't a solution for what I was asking. The solution provided was sufficient enough to make the issue bearable.
