Can you post the error you're getting when you go to your host's web URL? Did you try:
http://IPofHost?

Another thought...do you have virtual center install file? If you do (and you can download/install as a trial), you can run the autorun.exe file and when the window of options displays, you can select to install the Client.

~coolsport00
If you don't have virt ctr install, you can download it from the VMware link:
http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_infrastructure_3/3_5#product_downloads

...and click to download virtual center 2.5 U6 button. You'll need to log in...accept the EULA, then you can download the .exe or .zip file, which conglomerately contains converter, vcenter, upt mgr, and client installs.

p.s. sorry for so many different posts...things came to me after I submitted my previous posts :P

which of those files will install Vcenter?
vcenter2.bmp
Please make sure you use .png format for your images "jskfan"...bitmaps are extremely large. Thanks a bunch.

Ok..from your 1st screenshot, I noticed https as the URL...try just http (it may get redirected to SSL, but I forgot and am not at my office today to verify). Also, in using IE 8 (I do as well), you may need to reset your security defaults, as well as turn off pop-up blocker, phish filter, etc...and even set compatibility view.

For the 2nd screenshot...and the error you're getting...it may be because your email acct isn't officially licensed for VI. You should be able to download a 'trial' though here:
https://www.vmware.com/tryvmware/index.php

Try downloading from there...if you see vSphere...just click on "history" link and it will show (hopefully) legacy versions of ESX & virt ctr. Let me know...

BTW...wasn't ignoring your posts...just my Internet is acting REAL slow tonight! :(

I selected vmware vsphere, but I don't see history.

I have ESX 3.5 servers, would vsphere vcenter standard server work ok?
You know...version 4.0 may work (I think). VMware has a compatibility matrix for all their 'stuff'. Let me go take a look....

~coolsport00
OK...so, according to the Matrix:
http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf

vsphere client 4.0 and above does work for legacy hosts (3.5). So, you can download vCenter Server and install the client from that.

Vmware is really a big pain, after I logged in, to download the free trial, it says
that vmware requires an email address that is not from a free domain.
I have a hotmail account.

and this is for my Lab usage.
Hmmm...at this point, I'm outta ideas... :(

how can I get at least  just VI client?
You have to 'log in' and 'register' with VMware to be able to download software from their site. I forgot they had restrictions on the email address type that can be used; so, that being said, I'm out of ideas on how to get it from there. That leaves us back to getting to your ESX host via URL. Did you try my suggestion above (comment ID #34116325)?

I use IE7
Ok...in your earlier post you mentioned you used IE8. Well, regardless, they both have all those same functions....did you try modifying the IE settings? Also, can you tell me what specific URL you are using to connect to your host?

would the open source do the job?
VMware vCenter Server 2.5 Update 6 Open Source Code

I have downloaded it but I am not sure what to extract?
I downloaded it and tried to find the VI Client install through all the tar.gz zip files and couldn't. Uggh. I'm at my wits end on what else to try. :(

Do you have a FTP site I can upload the install file to you? I have it. But, if you don't have a work email or something you can use to download it, and you're not able to get to the install via your web interface (http://IPofESXhost), then I am out of things to try.

I have installed firefox and it is working fine  for the VI client(it's in the process of saving the file), but for VMcenter, it 's still taking me to the vmware website, which requires not to use public domain email.
if the VI client gets installed successfully it should be good enough at least to connect to one ESX and explore the mystery.

Thanks a lot for your help!!!
Ah yes....gosh..don't know why I forgot about suggesting another browser! :P hahaha I was so stuck on getting IE to work, or downloading it, that is the 1 thing I forgot about. Well, glad you were able to download it from your server.

Best of luck "jskfan"

regarding the VMCenter, can you just email me the zip file, or give me a link to download it. if You can.

Otherwise, you have been already a big help..

thanks

by the way VI client is working fine. Perfect
Well, I don't think I can email virt ctr install since it's 600-800MB in size. No email system allows file transfers that large. Well, glad your up and going with the client.
