When adding an appointment to a public calendar is there a way to alert the user if they try to schedule an appointment for the same time as an existing appointment?  Once they are alerted they can still add the appointment.

Hi, jrsitman.

If they are adding the appointments directly to the calendar, then "no".  There's no built-in means of doing this.  If the public calendar is a resource calendar, then you could use Microsoft's Auto-accept Agent to add the appointments.  Beyond that the only solution I can think of is to employ a bit of scripting to detect the overlap and warn the user.  The code would have to be installed on every computer that will ever access the calendar.
