I am unable to search Inventory from vSphere Client, I get an error "Login to query service failed"

This error occurs only when the vSphere client is not on the same machine as the vCenter is installed.

Firewall disabled on both ends, no proxy

Please Help.

The search function relies on the tomcat server, so it may be related to a name resolution issue.  Do you see similar problems when running the client from another system and trying to access the performance or storage views tabs?

Follow the kb at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1010725 for checking/changing how the system references itself.
