HI!

I try to link a ms 2008 to a ms 2005, but recive error:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
------------------------------

"The linked server has been created but failed a connection test. Do you want to keep the linked server?"

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

------------------------------

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "XX-XX-XXXXX".
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "XX-XX-XXXX" returned message "Unable to complete login process due to delay in opening server connection". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7303)

The linked server connection from 2008 to this 2005 server goes fine...

I take it you mean you're trying to connect a linked server from 2005 to 2008 ?
seeing as you said

"The linked server connection from 2008 to this 2005 server goes fine..."

if so,
you can't create linked server from 2005 to 2008
