WSUS Removed - Windows Update change settings disabled
I had deployed WSUS several months ago, but have decided to remove it because of problems (Zune software updates among them), and it uninstalled from the server fine and I have removed the 2 registry keys specifying WUServer and WUStatusServer, however I still cannot change any settings and Windows Update is failing.
I have checked group policy for Windows Update (Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update) and everything is set to Not Configured.
How do I get this fixed so that workstations return to using MS for Windows updates instead of my server that is no longer running?

Zune doesn't update if you use WSUS, it fails because it cannot connect directly to MS and WSUS does not have a Zune selection.
None of those settings were ever configured in GP, WSUS deployment was doing utilizing registry keys.

The problem with Zune was updating the workstation software, not the Zune device software. It was also preventing installs because during the install it insists on updating from MS, but that fails if you use WSUS and then the installer aborts with an error.
The script used for WSUS was just a registry file with the WUServer and WUStatusServer, both of which have been removed.
And Zune was one reason for removing, not the only reason.

Never solved, just want to close it since I am cancelling my account.

Reconfigure these except for the "Specify Intranet Microsoft update service location" <<< this was the specific setting that pointed your clients to your WSUS server. Disabling/not configured will make them go directly to microsoft for updates.
