Need help finding explorer.exe high CPU utilization on Windows 7 laptop

It seems my laptop had recently gotten slower so researching solutions.  My Dell DualCore runs Win7 Pro32bit, and 4GB RAM.  In taskmgr, explorer.exe runs about 50% consistently even with no apps running.

Upgraded to Office 2010 a few months back so not sure if related but slow down seemed separated by at least a month.
Have SEP 11.0.6 but disabled it and didn't help.
Tried to run sysinternals procexplorer, but could seem to see much within explorer to dtermine source.
Already have indexing turned off.

Thanks for any other suggestions.

you should be able to see individual CPU and Memory utilizations in the process section of task manager. if something's going crazy it should be apparent after watching them for a few minutes.

Thanks. That is where I see explorer.exe running high.  The issue is I need to dig deeper into explorer.exe.
