I am changing the look to the SharePoint navigation, but I can seem to find where I can find how to remove that little drop down triangle in the menu for when I want drop down menus. I want the drop down to happen, but I want to remove the triangle section.

open default.master page in sharepoint designer and click the top link bar

select this link :- <SharePoint:AspMenu ID="TopNavigationMenu"

you can change the  :- "StaticPopoutImageUrl="/_layouts/images/menudark.gif" to

StaticPopoutImageUrl="/_layouts/images/menudarkanyname.gif"

Is there away to remove the place holder so that it matches the rest of the menu items?

I guess I just don't want an indicator that there are sub menus. When you hover over it the drop down will work.

With the place holder the text is pushed over to the left.
