ColdFusion 9 Merging complex report

Hello --

I'm a novice in CF9 world; just started to using ColdFusion Report Builder application (v9), with the goal to evaluate IF CFRB that's right solution.

Our CF application (basic CRM) is created to produce complex PDF report (at the moment all report are based on Word 2007 templates, and are filled by hand). Some report that I need to create are also multi page based (2 or 4 pages). The number of report pages, and also some section, must be  dinamically calculated.

Some reports contains lots of tables, also with nested tables and with little graphics elements; I'm trying to reproduce same Word 2007 template with CFRB but I have found that is not the ideal tool for this specific goal; I'm wrong? it's very nice for label or simple report, but when there are table or graphic element, I'm unable to have the requested precision. Also I have probably found some bugs when using metrics unit.

With scenario above described, can anyone suggest me right approach to produce requested report?

I know that probably there are *many* options, in particular OOXML integration. I'm right?

From a very simple point of view my goal is to create merging report.

Can anyone suggest any URL or document or reporting solution that helps me to solve my scenario?

Many thanks for any suggestion,
Alex/

I never liked Reportbuilder and I've been using coldfusion for almost 7 or 8 years. As you said, the tool is really only for basic reporting needs so when it comes to real reportes, the best way to do it is simply hard coding. If your new it may not be the simpliest solution, but CF is really really a simple language.

If I remeber report builder appeared with cf7, it was first ment to be paid but then released as free, therefore I believe why it is so limited.

The other reason not to use it is because you have to enable RDS, and that is never a good idea on production servers.

you have a lot of tags at your disposal to then have your reports in pdf or excel so my best recomendation is drop the reporting tool and start practicing.
