I have a Windows 7 Pro laptop. It has PaperPort 12 Professional installed. It is scanning to an HP Office-jet Pro 7500. The HP scanning Solution Center software has taken over the scanning. I am unable to override this software in order to allow PaperPort to do the scanning. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Two things. First, here's how to get the PaperPort Scanning Manager to do the scanning instead of the HP software. In PaperPort, click on Desktop then Scan Settings. You'll see a check-box that says <Display scanner dialog box>. It is undoubtedly checked, which is what brings up the HP software. Un-check it!

Second, the PP version installed is probably 12.0. I suggest upgrading to 12.1 (FREE!), which fixed numerous bugs in 12.0. For the PP12 Pro update (12.1), go here:
<http://www.nuance.com/windows7/paperport/professional/>

Just fill out the simple form. When I did this a while ago, Nuance sent a "Dear Valued PaperPort Customer" email. It had a link to download a zip file, which was very large (more than 300MB for Pro).

Uninstall all Nuance products, including PP12, PDF Create, PDF Viewer Plus, PDF Converter, PP Image Printer, etc. (these require separate uninstalls). Some folks even uninstall seemingly unrelated Nuance products, like Dragon Naturally Speaking and OmniPage (PP12 no longer needs OmniPage to make a PDF Searchable Image file).

Then unzip the downloaded 12.1 and run AUTORUN.exe in the root. This is the PP12 update that is certified for Win7. Regards, Joe
