Firstly I had to install "Google Data Python Library" and "Google Gdata CLI client library" from the Ubuntu Software Centre (they both came up when I searched for YouTube). I may not have needed both but without either running the script just generates errors.

Then I downloaded the python script in a zip file from https://github.com/slayton/slUpYou (Download button)

I unzipped it creating the folder from within.

From a Terminal window I changed into the new folder and executed the script with 'python UpYou.py'

at which point a GUI window popped up so it appeared to be working OK.
