How do I get the current year to show up on XSLT 1.0?

Without extensions there is no possibility to get that

- if you need to work on different processors, best you can do is pass it in as a parameter, you can easily do that and let the calling environment deal with the date

- you could use the extension mechanism of the processor to get that date. eg. javascript in msxml, c# in .net, java in xalan and saxon, ... but you loose the browser indepence

- you could use the exslt extension mechanisms, but again that depends on the processor you are using
just see if your processor is on the list here

this is not as easy a question as you seem to think :-)
