WordPress Error when trying to upload Word Document

I am using Wordpress 3.0. I go to a page, click "Media", browse to a word document on my computer, click upload and I get this error: "File type does not meet security guidelines. Try another."
How do I fix this?

Since the process looks sound and WordPress demonstrates how to add DOC as Media, here
http://en.support.wordpress.com/uploading-documents/

Maybe the error message is not reflective of what is actually occuring.
Did you try another filetype, like an image file to see if the same error occurs?

Permissions to the folder where the file is being saved on the server.

User permissions, administrator to WordPress?
Just a few thoughts ....

I found the answer. I  had to add "doc" and "docx" to the upload file types under Options.

While waiting for an answer I did a bunch of digging into Wordpress and found the solution myself.
