Cannot remotely administer MySQL installed on Windows 7

I have Windows 7 Professional on Dell Vostro 230.

I installed MySql Server (mysql-5.1.52-winx64.msi) into MySQL directory. Configured MySQL and imported my app's database using MySQL Workbench.

I would like to remotely manage MySQL but cannot get MySQL Administrator on remote computer to connect.

I keep getting

MySQL Error Number 2003.
Can't connect to MySQL Server on 'host' (1060).
Ping to 'host' is successful.

From remote computer, I tried 'telnet [mysqlHost] 3306' but connection failed.

Research on question has gotten me nowhere.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

It sounds like a windows firewall issue.  You can test this by just disabling the windows firewall temporarily and if that resolves the problem just add an exception allowing incoming requests on port 3306.

It turned out to be my antivirus/firewall.

The computer came preinstalled with TrendMicro Antivirus.

I checked the firewall settings but couldn't find anything.

So I uninstalled TrendMicro and installed the 64-bit client installer for Symantec Endpoint Protection, everything cleared up.

Thank you for your help.
