Hello,

I am trying to get the email portion setup for Request Tracker and we are trying to do it through SMTP. Does anyone have any basic instructions on how to do this?

Thank you

The install guides should help you, but it depends on your installation.

I have followed the "Ubuntu WithEmailFacility" instructions word for word from scratch and was very successful, the instructions are well written. I now have an ubuntu box running as a virtual machine inside of Windows Hyper-V which uses RT and the email facilities to support@mycompany.com work.

The major snag I ran into was configuring ubuntu to talk to my SMTP server, because configuring linux's "Postfix" and "Fetchmail" systems to talk with the correct SSL certificates, authentication etc. to my Exchange Server in Windows Server 2008 was..... painful.

You might want to refer to the Experts Exchange question I posted on it, where I resolved the issue and got Ubuntu to talk to Exchange in order to fetch emails via POP3, and deliver emails by using the Exchange Server as a smarthost to do the relaying:

I am not worried about incoming mail to RT, I just want to have it send mail. Could I just do this with SMTP?
