Hi I am trying to install a scanner on XP embedded, the add new
hardware wizard identifies it as unknown device and refuses to allow
me to update the driver using hidclass.sys, hidparse.sys, hidusb.sys
files imported from an xp pro system.
This version of XPE has no service packs installed, i am an XPE
newbie, is it possible to install SP's on XPE? Would it make a
difference?
Help Please.

there is a special SP3 for XPE and WEPOS.
HID barcode scanner should not be any different from HID devices like keyboards.
You can point hardware wizard to c:\windows\inf on working XP to get driver if it is really not present on XPE

Thanks gheist, I had tried copying across the inf folder from an xppro box, what worked for me was also copying the system32/drivers folder across and adding any not already extant .sys files and also replacing any that referred to HID or USB, sheesh a was going around on circles with that one for an age, cheers
