ACTIVE DIRECTORY REBUILD

HI All,
I have a client who has an sbs 2003 server.  Unfortunately, her copier tech attempted to "add" rights to a file and the next thing I know I am getting "Active directory is rebuilding indices" upon startup, I do not get any further ad error and I can log on with the admin account.  I do have other services that are now failing.  I only have data backups and before throwing in the towel and reinstalling, I would like to see if there are any ways of repairing AD given these circumstances.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!

Try to run a integrity check on your Database and a semantic check. Do this by booting into Directory service restore mode.

ntdsutil files integrity

ntdsutil "sem d a" go
If this fails try the following:
ntdsutil "sem d a" "go f"
