Log shipping Restore job out of sync error
Hello Experts,
One of my Log shipping database is failing with out of sync alert even after reconfiguring 3 times till now. The backup job is running fine, the copy is fine and the restore is also running fine but its not moving forward. New logs are being copied over correctly. Not sure why the Retore job is not picking up logs. when i checked in the log_shipping_monitor_secon day table, the last_restored_file = 'NULL' it tell it never actually moved forward after the setup completed. Not sure where to go from here. Any thoughts?

Make sure that before you setup the log shipping you backup the source database and restore it over the target database. While you do this make sure that the source is not inserted by some outer processes. When you set up the log shipping the 2 databases have to be identical.

I can defiantely take a source backup and copy it and restore it before configuring log shipping. But i didnt understand your statement here
" While you do this make sure that the source is not inserted by some outer processes" - How can i control the outer process that inserts into the database?

By changing the db restricted access option to single user. In MS right click on db > Properties > Option > Restricted user.
When done change it back to multiple user.

No way i can do that.. its is a prod db.
Ok, then try doing it while live. You still have to go through he backup restore process.

I even tried that.. no luck :(
Are you sure that the log files location are setup correctly with the permissions for the 2 servers?

yes very much. I cautiously did this for almost 5 times now. I have set up log shipping for numerous databases but only this one gives me hard time.

There are 7 other standy databases on the same cluster. Both are having same version. i was going through some forumns and they suggested to reboot the server and see. I didnt get a chance to do that. The primary is in Full Recovery mode and the seconday is in Standby/Readonly mode.

It seems like we had another Transaction Log Backup job which wasn't turned off. This was the reason for those skipping transactions logs as it was unable to find the next tlog back up as part of Log shipping.
