ntbackup exchange 2003

hello all, and thank you for your time.

I am having an issue when backing up exchange using ntbackup.  during the veryifing phase I AM seeing error: an inconsistency was found in the requested backup file.  I am backing up to dell rd1000 500gb sata hard drives.  I have run the backups on the fly and of course scheduled.  I have backed up even to a usb hard drive with the same error.  I dont get any useful information that will help me solve this incident. this only occurs for full backups of exchange .I ran an integrity check using eseutil and I have no errors on the exchange databses.

I use to use symantec backup 12 but was also having issues at the veryfying phase so im puzzled as to why im getting this ?

Check out the Exchange Mantainance time frame, Weather it fall during the scheduled NTbackup job? By default the Maiinatnce time is 1am to 5 am. If you job falls in this time then change the time of your job.

What is the command you're using in task scheduler that runs the backup?

again I run into this issue if I run the schedule or if I just run it manually.

You should see an error number and a post in your Event logs with more info. Would you mind posting that?

Consult the backup report for more detail.

Hi,

Is the Circular logging is enable on the exchange? Because it seems the backups are failing during verification. So most probably is the Circular logging is enable the it does not find d same data during verification which is been backed up. If its enable then i suggest you to disable it. But if bu disable d circular logging, you log files will start increasing so do it as per d availablity of in the hard drive.

Mostly the event 8009 occurs if the file is corrupt  or it has been changed. Thats the reason because with circular logging the files gets continously changing.

That Event can be either Information or Error.  If it is recorded as an error, it should be writing info to you Backup.log file.  If it isn't, you should turn on full detail logging.  If it is, can you give us the relevant info from the Backup.log?
