How can Intraweb know the link/site they went to, or if they closed the browser altogether?

You can't do that, remember that these event are triggered in the user browser...

Best you can achieve is call a JavaScript function before user unload the page, something like this:

<body onunload="dosomething()">
...
function doSomething(){
..
//Do some AJAX magic and send info to server...
..
}
