Unable to paste documents in SharePoint Folders...

Hello,
Can someone help resolve this question..  I am unable to paste documents in SharePoint Folders...
It keeps giving me an error message saying that it the filename is too long..  it does not work even when I shorten the filenames..

Hello and sincere thanks for your prompt reply..  
I am copying from one folder to another..   Typically from the Windows Explorer to the MS SharePoint browser folder.

Per your question, the path is over 140 characters long as the documents reside in sub-folder within Windows Explorer...

then you can't copy it this way.  the limit is 128 characters.  the error message you're receiving is a little misleading.  it's not just the characters in the file name itself, but the complete path, including the file name.

How is this a problem as I am merely either uploading relevant docs...   like one does from anywhere else..   Have you encountered such issues before..  

I have tried moving the file to the Desktop to shrink the path length to no avail...

it is a limit in sharepoint.

you can try this:

or, reduce the path length.
