I am trying to upgrade my Blackberry Enterprise Server from version 4.1.7 to 5.0.2 with the version 5 updater but when I run the setup of 5.0.2, I got the "Error Initializing System" pop up.

I found a similar posted here http://blog.mpecsinc.ca/2010/11/blackberry-enterprise-server-express.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MpecsIncBlog+%28MPECS+Inc.+Blog%29 and I folowed their instruction to remove the registry key of "database", consequently; I still have the same issue.

pls help.

This is a known issue with the setup upgrade and even the RIM knowledgebase mentions about the same steps that you had followed.

I would rather go through the upgrade guide to ensure alll the necessary prerequisites have been met and follow the steps mentioned in it. Not sure if this would be of much help. but definitely worth refering to.

gud luck and do post back if there was any other alternative fix you would have found. Interesting to know

thanks for your post.  do you know if they have a full version of Version 5.0 installation file in stead of the updater?

I did not find it in BB site, only the updater I got from them.

I checked my server, I have..

2GB of memory
MapiCDO 1.21
SQL 2005 Express /sp3

But I do not know why, when I ran setup, I still got the initializing error.

Hi,

I'm getting this error too, did you find a solution in the end? If you delete the Database reg key as mentioned by RIM would you have to restart the server before trying to run the setup again?

It looks like that key actually holds Database information as the SQL information shows up blank under the Blackberry Server Configuration when removed.

Thanks

Andrew
