event id 7031 - The DCOM Server Process Launcher service terminated unexpectedly

what could be the cause for the above issue-

there is no error before that in event viewer.. other than system log, is there anything/anywhere else that can give us a clue?

What is your SP level for Server 2003?  Also, have you checked various anti-malware tools, because that error will throw with various worms, viruses, trojans, etc.... I have seen a resurgence of cornflicker lately, so try McAfee's stinger tool:

What was the final result of your Question?  You indicated that my suggestion didn't resolve the issue, but accepted it as the Answer.  While I am always grateful for any points given by Authors, I don't want to get points I don't deserve.
