I am trying to use a balckberry bold 9650 with windows 2000 laptop to connect to internet.

The verison wirelss software VZAccess software only runs on windows XP and 7.

Is there a way around this to get to internet working without software or get a windows 200 software which i could not find to support blackberry.

Have you tried using the blackberry desktop manager it provides tethering? you could also purchase an app that would allow you to do it

Yes it is capable, once you download install it and connect your phone to your computer click the mobile internet button on the bottom left hand corner.

Forget VZAccess and all that.. Just use EasyTether.

http://www.soft82.com/download/windows/easytether/

I have been using it for my Incredible. Works like a charm and without the hassle.

Another easy solution is PDAnet:

This
http://www.soft82.com/download/windows/easytether/

does not support WINDOWS 2000. Check the list of OS on the page.

Does PDANet support windows 2000. ANything that allows connecting a blackberry bold to windows 2000 laptop.

It does work on windows 2000:

How can I make EasyTether work with Windows 2000?

   1. Install Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000 from Microsoft site
   2. Install your smartphone drivers from the smartphone vendor site
   3. Always launch EasyTether under the Administrator account

Also, if you use easytether or PDAnet, you wont have any cap on mobile data usage. (Most carrier hace data cap when you tether) EasyTether and PDAnet impersonate a connection as you making use of your cellphone broswer.

Yes BB Desktop manager works on 2000. That would install you the drivers as well.
Using the easytether is the cheapest solution.. without the worry of going over your data cap.

You will be able to track how much usage is you have used within the desktop manager program so you can take note in case you go over your usage or nearing your limit.

>> in case you go over your usage or nearing your limit.

with easytether you will never worry about it. Also you wont need an additional tethering plan (20$) in your bill.

So I think at this point OP you have some options

You can try the demo of EasyTether and if you like it you can purchase it for 10$
You can use Desktop Manager, and purchase a tethering plan
You can purchase tether.net which is usually the standard

I think the blackberry has tethering plan from Versizon. would not desktop manager work with that?

so easy tether is the best option here.

I am not sure where you are going wrong:

Here is another solution, which is reliable on Windows Platform:

http://tether.com/blackberry/download

by the way if you access internet using VZAccess, its 30$ a month.

OK i got this working.

I can surf the web using the blackberry tethering interface.

The connection to VPN server works fine.

But then connecting to other servers using VPN tunnel does not seem to work. Is there something i need to do or the Verison netowrk does not support that.

Glad your connection is working using tether.net/com  The VPN tunnel may or may not work depending on if Verizon is blocking GRE/IPSEC/L2TP

Your best and most accurate answer would be to contact Verizon that way if anything they can escalate the issue to thier networking team and they will accurately tell you yes we block it and if they can permit access or no it should work.

As fluk3d suggested you, contact Verizon support.
This question is going on for long, I would suggest you to open new question with VPN problem.
