Yes it is capable, once you download install it and connect your phone to your computer click the mobile internet button on the bottom left hand corner.

Also, if you use easytether or PDAnet, you wont have any cap on mobile data usage. (Most carrier hace data cap when you tether) EasyTether and PDAnet impersonate a connection as you making use of your cellphone broswer.

Yes BB Desktop manager works on 2000. That would install you the drivers as well.
Using the easytether is the cheapest solution.. without the worry of going over your data cap.

You will be able to track how much usage is you have used within the desktop manager program so you can take note in case you go over your usage or nearing your limit.

So I think at this point OP you have some options

You can try the demo of EasyTether and if you like it you can purchase it for 10$
You can use Desktop Manager, and purchase a tethering plan
You can purchase tether.net which is usually the standard

I think the blackberry has tethering plan from Versizon. would not desktop manager work with that?

I just got a message when trying to install blackberry desktop software that it requires windows XP Sp2 or later. so that would not work.

i installed that on the pc, so i need to do anything on blacbeey> iam not familiar with those devices yet.

I ran it on PC and it say start tether on the blacberyy in USB mode.

i connected it via USB to the laptop but i cant see it.

OK i got this working.

I can surf the web using the blackberry tethering interface.

The connection to VPN server works fine.

But then connecting to other servers using VPN tunnel does not seem to work. Is there something i need to do or the Verison netowrk does not support that.

What did you use? Tetherberry or VzAccess?

Glad your connection is working using tether.net/com  The VPN tunnel may or may not work depending on if Verizon is blocking GRE/IPSEC/L2TP

It just tether. I downloaded that from the link you prodivded.

Is there a way to find out if Verison is blocking GRE/IPSEC/L2P or do i need to contact them?
Are those usually services they can add to the acccount online.

kind of strage. for some time it did work. but i am trying to figure out what i did.
it seems it had to do with UPD port.
