Will a h1 tag work for seo purposes if it's display is set to hidden?

Will a h1 tag work for seo purposes if it's display is set to hidden?

My home page design doesn't really incorporate a typical heading with an intro paragraph.
But I don't want to miss out on page ranking by not having a h1 tag. So I have added one but hidden it with css - display:none;

Will this work for SEO?

I would strongly suggest that you do NOT hide your H1 tag, or anything you use for SEO purposes.  Hiding things like title tags, keywords, H1 tags, etc are bound to raise flags and scream black hat SEO practices, which is a quick way to get your site banned.

There IS an option where you make your logo an H1 tag, and that is something you may want to consider.

But anytime you use an SEO term or best practice followed by the words 'hidden', red flags should be flying, alarms sounding, and the entire SEO community urging you, 'DON'T DO IT!'

Hope this helps!  :)
