Error when sending email Tracked in CRM 4.0

We have a major issue which effecting all users and massively affecting business productivity.

We have a Windows 2003 Small Business Server with CRM 4.0 on the same box.  There is a separate SQL server running the database for the CRM system.  There isn't a email router instead Outlook performs the routing for CRM.

Frequently when users send an email with "Track In CRM" enabled it can take up to a minute to send and the following error is produced.

Does anyone know what maybe causing this?

Do you have the latest update rollups for CRM installed?  For CRM for Outlook you'll need Update Rollup 7 followed by 14. For the server you can apply just 14.

Are there any other symptoms?

It is odd that the error message says that the corresponding activity won't be created in CRM - perhaps there is a permission/attachment length issue?

We are running update 13, do you not think that would be up to date enough or do you have a specific KB article that highlights update 14 resolves this issue?

This error occurs with or without attachments and the maximum length is 10Mb.

There are no other errors which I can find.

Thanks for your help.

Update 13 should be fine.

Is there anything to in common for the messages that fail to track?

I'm wondering whether there is a time-out occuring which is leading to the An error has occured message. Perhaps the event viewer on the user's computer might have some more useful info?

The issue ending up being the general performance of the SQL server in particular the amount of memory SQL could use.  I upgraded the server to Windows 2008 R2 with SQL 2005 64bit and it is now running like a dream
