We purchased our Xbox360 in 2006 and it's no longer under warranty.

The original optical drive failed so we purchased the Toshiba/Samsung TS-H943 Microsoft Xbox 360 Internal DVD-ROM Drive as a replacement.

The drive is advertised as a replacement drive for the all xbox360 consoles, however, when we place an XBox 360 game into the new drive, our only option is to play DVD.

How do we get the new drive to read game disks?

Here' are the spec's of the new drive:
Replacement DVD drive for your Xbox 360 game system
16x maximum read speed (DVD)
48x maximum read speed (CD)
512 KB buffer
SATA interface

Input Rating:
12V, 1.3A
5V, 06A

Regulatory Approvals:
cULus
TUV
Nemko
MIC

Notes:
Model: TS-H943
P/N: X800473-019
UPN: 6 83728 12541 7
Product Requirements:
Xbox 360 game system

The Xbox360 Optical Drives contain a key that is matched to the console. When you replaced the drive, the console has detected that the new drive has a different key and is then preventing you from playing game discs.

You will need to extract the key from the previous drive, and transfer it to the new drive.

Thanks for your assistance-Psy053.
Flashing the optical drive is a painstaking process.  In the end, I was not able to get the new drive working.
